Big News

OK, I guess I can now put this on my blog since family and several friends know. Emily & I are expecting our first child this September. The pregnancy was not completely unexpected, but came a little quicker than we thought it would. That's always the first question we get.

Everyone also asks about my reaction. Emily does a great job mimicking the blank stare that apparently met her announcements. I responded as many of you would expect...with immediate research on the things we would need to purchase, changes that would happen in our budget, and exactly how you care for a newborn. I sat at the computer until around 2 am doing research. Emily just shook her head when I presented her with two completed Excel worksheets the next morning. To save some of you from an unnecessary email, I know that I am obsessive compulsive.

We spent this past weekend in Tennessee visiting Emily's family. I'll try to write something about that sometime over the next couple of days.

Overdoing it

Its been an unusual couple of weeks. Last week, tornados hit Union University in Tennessee. Since the professors of all three of my classes had children at Union, they've been focused elsewhere (understandably). Just for your information, their daughters were not injured. After that, Kentucky had a snow storm come through on Tuesday of this week. My morning classes were canceled due to road conditions, and my professor for my afternoon class was stuck out of state. I used the day to catch up on some reading and projects. This has made it a somewhat painless week as far as classes are concerned.

Ok, so yesterday was Valentine's Day. Emily & I had agreed not to really do much, but she wanted to make me a nice dinner. She asked me to take my time getting back from Louisville so she could cook dinner. (I normally make it back before she can get home from school). I decide to go for a run since the guy I carpool with didn't go today. I parked at one of the parks I like to run at when I'm in Louisville with the intentions of doing a lap that's between 6-7 miles. There was still snow and ice on the ground from Tuesday's cold front, but the temp. had climbed into the 40s. I decided to add an extra loop, then another, then a third. All told, I ended up going between 11-12 miles instead of 6-7. I expected to be unable to move this morning. For the past couple of weeks, I've ridden an exercise bike more than I've run. Growing up in the land of the 2 days of winter (southern Mississippi), I don't handle running in the cold very well. The bike is my way of hiding from subfreezing temperatures. I'm releaved to find that I'm not as sore as I probably should be. Alternating between the exercise bike and running may not be such a bad plan after all.

Day Hike

Sorry it's been a while. Nothing really out of the ordinary has been going on. Mainly just readjusting to being back in class. Just for anyone's information, LGBC is doing well. God is moving and working despite the pastor of the church. The pictures on this post are from this morning at Mammoth Cave National Park. Emily apparently got tired of my complaining about the same old routine, so she suggested we do a day hike. Everything was going great until we came to a creek crossing that was much higher than normal b/c of last week's storms. Instead of wading through waist deep water, we backtracked to the car. The weather was perfect. I guess I better get back down the hall to read some more. I need to write a book review before Tuesday.
