Overdoing it

Its been an unusual couple of weeks. Last week, tornados hit Union University in Tennessee. Since the professors of all three of my classes had children at Union, they've been focused elsewhere (understandably). Just for your information, their daughters were not injured. After that, Kentucky had a snow storm come through on Tuesday of this week. My morning classes were canceled due to road conditions, and my professor for my afternoon class was stuck out of state. I used the day to catch up on some reading and projects. This has made it a somewhat painless week as far as classes are concerned.

Ok, so yesterday was Valentine's Day. Emily & I had agreed not to really do much, but she wanted to make me a nice dinner. She asked me to take my time getting back from Louisville so she could cook dinner. (I normally make it back before she can get home from school). I decide to go for a run since the guy I carpool with didn't go today. I parked at one of the parks I like to run at when I'm in Louisville with the intentions of doing a lap that's between 6-7 miles. There was still snow and ice on the ground from Tuesday's cold front, but the temp. had climbed into the 40s. I decided to add an extra loop, then another, then a third. All told, I ended up going between 11-12 miles instead of 6-7. I expected to be unable to move this morning. For the past couple of weeks, I've ridden an exercise bike more than I've run. Growing up in the land of the 2 days of winter (southern Mississippi), I don't handle running in the cold very well. The bike is my way of hiding from subfreezing temperatures. I'm releaved to find that I'm not as sore as I probably should be. Alternating between the exercise bike and running may not be such a bad plan after all.

Day Hike

Sorry it's been a while. Nothing really out of the ordinary has been going on. Mainly just readjusting to being back in class. Just for anyone's information, LGBC is doing well. God is moving and working despite the pastor of the church. The pictures on this post are from this morning at Mammoth Cave National Park. Emily apparently got tired of my complaining about the same old routine, so she suggested we do a day hike. Everything was going great until we came to a creek crossing that was much higher than normal b/c of last week's storms. Instead of wading through waist deep water, we backtracked to the car. The weather was perfect. I guess I better get back down the hall to read some more. I need to write a book review before Tuesday.

Finally Getting Back into a Routine

Well, I really have nothing much to tell. Maybe its just me, but it seems to take a couple of weeks into Januray before I ever really recover from the holidays. I normally refer to it as the Christmas hangover. That especially seems to be the case this year. Emily is back to teaching. I finished my J-term class last week, but I have a couple of projects to finish us. We're finally getting back in a consistent routine of work...thankfully.

I haven't forgotten about blogging, but it may be a couple of weeks before I really have anything to update. There's really nothing happening that really would be news to anyone other than Emily and I. (I'm assuming none of you get that excited hearing about someone cleaning out the basement, so I'll spare you that).

The Holidays Wind Down

OK, the last three weeks have been hectic. Emily & I met my family in Orlando for a week at Disney, which was great. We were back home for about 48 hours, including hosting an open house. Then we were in Tennessee with Emily's family for Christmas. The day we got back, we began the post-Christmas closet cleaning (kind of a tradition for Emily & I). I've got a J-term class in a couple of weeks called "Major Living World Religions." If you don't know how that works, I spend 8-5 each day listening to lectures for five days. After that, I've got about three weeks to finish any assigned papers or work. The bad part is that for a week, everything but class is largely ignored. On the good side, that's one less class I have to take this semester. Right now, I'm trying to finish up the assigned readings so I don't have to push quite so hard during the class.

I'll post a link to a few pictures on the right side of this blog.

What a Morning

This is what I woke up to this morning. If you can't tell, that's a large tree branch that has fallen across the white fence that lines the church property as well as the metal fence that lines my back yard. Its been a while sense I got to spend my first hour of the day standing ankle deep in mud, while I used a sledge hammer to drive a couple of fence posts into the ground. Needless to say, it wasn't the best start of the day.

Enough whining. I got to do some visits to members of the church today, which is always an enjoyable day. I better get back to work. I need to write a few letters before I call it a day.
