The Powerpoint Begins

This is my last couple of days my initial military training. All this means is that we're going to begin learning chaplain specific skills. This also means almost all day is spent in the classroom. After PT, we're in the classroom listening to briefings and staring at hours of PowerPoint. Today was legal issues. Tomorrow, we'll have several tests on some of the basic army structure and doctrines. On Thursday, we'll have our beret ceremony. This is when we begin wearing the army beret. I'm not really that excited about that. Personally, I prefer the way the patrol cap looks. I think there is more signficance than I am giving this particular event.

The picture I've put on this post is from last week when we were in the field. We actually got to go through this course with some Basic Training soldiers. I'm practicing moving through an area using cover provided by an armed soldier. Basically, I followed an eighteen year old soldier with an M16 as he moved from cover to cover. As if keeping up with an 18 yr old isn't hard enough, they didn't have to wear body armour. That makes running much harder.
I may or may not post again this week. After the beret ceremony, we will have a training holiday for the weekend. I'm going to meet Em in north Georgia for a couple of days. I'll post some more pictures soon.

Justin, we got to visit with Gene & Karon at the Pickering First Cousins Reunion this past week-end. It was really great, as we got to visit with all the ones we grew up with. We had 42 there. Karon gave me you blog or what-ever it is called. HA. I have been reading all about you and looking at all your pictures. You have a beautiful wife. Good luck with the baby. Know everyone is very happy about the new addition. I'm sorry that I don't recognize all the little ones in your family. They are growing up so fast. Good luck with all your plans for the future. We will remember you in our prayers. Jeanette Wiegand

Justin,
I was enjoying your site and thinking of you as a little boy at HBC. My how you have grown physically and spiritually. I fell in love with Emily the week of Missions. She tried to work me to death! Ha!. She is beautiful and has a loving spirit. Remember one thing, Bebe will be praying for you wherever God sends you. Stay safe and stay in touch. I love you two!

I talked to Em Thursday right after they crossed the AL/GA state line. She sounded really anxious to see you. Several times during the day, I can only imagine how happy you two are to be with each other. Which do you prefer, military training or classroom? I'm so looking forward to seeing both of you real soon! Love ya both! Mom in TN
